"So, how was your little vacation," she asked after a few minutes into their walk, after the hellos and how-are-yous and you-look-greats and it’s-good-to-see-yous were all out of the way. "What did you get up to?"
"Not much, really. I saw people. Talked to those people about stuff."
"Sounds like fun."
He laughed. “Well, it was,” he said defensively. “It was just doing what I always do here… but in another city.”
"And with different people," she stated.
"True." He looked at her and smiled, although when she looked back at him she caught the sun in her eyes and just ended up squinting his face into a blurry sunburst of light and decent teeth. "I don’t think it was nearly as good as your vacation."
"Why would you say that?"
“‘Cause you got to have sex on your vacation.”
For someone completely open and relatively shameless about her sex-life, he was surprised to see her blush slightly. Although, he thought, the blush could be a trick of the warm sun and August day.
"So, when you were doing what you do here with different people in another city, that didn’t include doing different people in a different city?"
He laughed again. “No. You see, I wasn’t going to a different city specifically to get some.”
"Hey, my trip wasn’t only to get laid. There were other purposes."
He shot her an incredulous look that was also lost in the blinding sunlight. “Hooking up with your lover was just a bonus, huh?”
"Okay, so my trip was mainly to get laid," she laughed. "But I deserved it. It had been a while."
"Okay, okay. I’ll let it slide." He smiled, but this time just at the ground. "I know what it’s like to go a while without."
"Oh," she cooed sympathetically. He found the noise simultaneously endearing and annoying. "You’ll get laid soon enough," she consoled.
"Mmm, I don’t think I will."
"Oh, come on. Why not?"
He let this question hang for a moment, although he knew the answer right away. “Because the only girl I really want to be with already has a lover. A lover who she just spent a vacation to go visit.” Another pause here was filled with sunshine and the sounds of their footsteps, still walking. “So, I don’t think I’m really on her radar right now.”

We had a great opening night at the Duplicity exhibition we are part of at Origins Gallery in Fremantle last week. There was a great response for the locally inspired artwork Sean has created. The exhibition runs until March 15th 2012. He’s also part of a solo exhibition at the end of April so stay tuned!
